Proverbs 27:17 - The right kind of fellowship

Proverbs 27:17 "As  iron sharpens iron, s o a man sharpens the countenance of his friend." As Iron sharpens Iron When cutting a loaf of bread, people say "let the knife do all the work". That is good advise... if the knife is sharp. If the knife is blunt you will have a tough time cutting through the loaf, and will probably end up with a shabby looking slice of toast at the end of it.  It is the same with our faith in Christ. When we put our trust in Jesus Christ, John 14 promises us that a helper, the Holy Spirit, will fill us. In doing so we will be able to have a relationship with God and our minds will be renewed. We will be filled with the power of God. Matthew 19:26 states "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible". When we put our trust in Christ we are adopted into the family of God and unplugged from this world to which we are all at one time in our lives (for some that means the whole of their life) slaves too...

Why do we focus on darkness?

Carl R Trueman states … "The gospel is light; it is truly beautiful. To wake in the morning and to know that whatever darkness lurks within our hearts, the light of Christ is sufficient to dispel it all is surely glorious. I have often in the past stood with those who laughed at what we regarded as the ignorant, unsophisticated taboos of the older generation. But now I worry about the ease with which the rising generation talks explicitly of ‘the fruitless deeds of darkness’ in the name of cultural engagement, fear of being thought passé or simply a desire to slough off the legalisms of their fathers in the faith. You can, after all, get to heaven without ever having seen an R-Rated art house movie or having enjoyed a spectacular love life …"  This statement is true. The Lord Jesus is the light of the world...
