The difference between the Bible and politicians

Image
Politicians generally have a poor reputation. Young political minds generally aspire to become politicians to try and fix the problems caused by current politicians. Rarely is a politician looked upon favourably, although there are some. Most often the reason politicians have a poor reputation is because they make all sorts of promises, but then never really act on them. A politician who makes extravagant claims but does not act upon them is not to be trusted. He is a liar and the reason for why politicians have such bad reputations. However, a politician who makes claims and backs them up by putting them into practice is to be trusted, for he has proven that he is credible. The same principle is true for the Bible. The Bible makes extravagant claims, however unlike politicians; the Bible goes further and backs up its claims with actions. This is how we know that the Bible can be trusted as God’s Word. Our trust is not based on the claims alone. It is based on the f...

A life with Christ

When you learn a new skill whether it be acquiring a language, learning to cook or learning to play a musical instrument, the material you use to teach you the skill, whether it is a lesson plan, a recipe or a song book containing various songs, you will probably encounter the same words at the beginning of each material. The words being; ‘beginner’; ‘intermediate’ or; ‘advanced’. We tackle each lesson based on our skill level. Once we have mastered that particular thing we will move on to something more challenging to us. What is important is that we do not attempt things that are above our current level of skill. Whilst a beginner guitarist may be very good at playing a song with four chords, he would be lost and confused if he tried to follow a fast finger picking song or a complicated classical guitar strumming pattern. Whilst a beginner cook may cook a fine fried egg, their attempt at baking a crème brulee would result in disaster.   It is important to master what we kno...

Living in the Knowledge of Christ's Return

One of the hottest topics in the Bible amongst BAC's and non-BAC's alike is the end times and the return of Christ. Everybody has an opinion on it and belongs to some school of thought over how and when it will all happen. Most believe that it is right around the corner - the latest catastrophe in the news being something very significant, some believing that the end times have already began. One thing that we can be certain of is that Christ's return is nearer than when we first believed. ( Romans 13:1 1 "And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed."). Revelation 1:1-3 1  The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified  it  by His angel to His servant John,  2  who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw.  3  B...

Be Careful what you say

Common sense tells us that there is a lot to gain by staying quiet. Of course there will be times when you will be called upon to speak or must take a stand for the Lord, and in these times God promises to be with you. ( Matthew 10:18-20 “ 18  You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. 19  But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; 20  for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.”) However, we should be careful as to what we say and how we say it. Passing comments, that to us seem helpful or necessary, to others can be hurtful and damaging. James 3:3 - 5 recognises the great influence and importance of words: “Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. 4 Look also at the ships: although they are so large and are driven by fie...

Every story has two sides

Quite often we are led to believe that our gut instincts are the right ones, whether they are something from God, God-given, or just our own feelings of a situation based upon what we can see. Whilst these gut instincts may serve us well at times, they can also lead us to very foolish conclusions. We must be aware of this and use caution when faced with a situation. Just as we should test things against the word of God, so too should we test things in everyday life before we commit to a decision. Do not make decisions based solely on what one person has said. ( 1 Thessalonians 5:21 "Test all things; hold fast what is good.") A verse to remember: Proverbs 18:17  "The first  one  to plead his cause  seems  right, Until his neighbor comes and examines him." In other words, every story seems right until you hear the other side. There may be times when listening to the story of a person, you become enraged at the injustice of the situation and the wrongs commi...
