1 Corinthians 2:1-5 The fear of Evangelising

As Christians we should have a desire to save those who are lost. We should have a natural desire in our hearts to save those who are perishing. If you do not then there is something wrong with you.  Ecclesiastes 12:14 tells us “For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing; whether good or evil.” When we die we must all stand before the Holy God to be judged according to our hearts. Romans 3:23 tells us that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Psalm 14:3 / Romans 3:12 tells us “…there is none that are good, no not one.”   2 Corinthians 5:21 tells us “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteous of God in Him.” By putting our faith in Jesus we are justly pardoned in law from the wrath of God and are able to enter heaven. As we stand before God to be judged, Jesus is our representative. He is better than any lawyer that money can buy, for not only does He represent for us but H...

'When I am weak... then I am Strong'

2 Corinthians 12:10 " Therefore I take pleasures in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong." We can each relate to this verse in our own way. Whether you are going through very hard times in your lives, or are nervous about something which is going to come to pass, or you are involved in things that takes you out of your comfort zone; take encouragement from the fact that 'when you are weak, then you are strong.' When you are weak in yourselves, it is then that you are strong in Christ. James 1:2 2 " My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials." James tells us to take joy in trials. We do not take joy in trials because these experiences are pleasant. Certainly they are not. James 1:3 tells us a reason to take joy is because it produces patience. Another reason that we should take joy in trials is because it is during these times, when we are ...

The Lord Giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord

It is safe to say that this phrase, found in Job 1:21 will be applicable to all of us at some time in our life, whether its the first half of the phrase or the second half. We live in a fallen world. The world is cursed ( Genesis 3 ). The world is full of loss, pain, sorrow, hurt, death, illness, injustice, fraud, deceit, lies, deception: the negatives are endless. Therefore it is inevitable that our lives will not always be rosy. Sometimes this is a consequence of our actions, sometimes this is the consequence of somebody else's actions, and sometimes it is simply a consequence of living on this earth. It is common to see what appeared to be at one time the strongest of Christians become deserters of God when things get tough. Oh, what an unbiblical and destructive way this is to live. When God allowed the devil to pour out evil upon Job, Job did not turn his back on God, even when his friends tried to assure him that he had a just cause to do so. Instead we read in Chapte...

Why take joy in trials?

To a non-Christian the concept of taking joy in trials is nonsensical. Trials and hardships are a time for mourning and self-pity when we question the injustice of life. For a Christian, trials are to be the complete opposite. BAC's are human and have human emotion, therefore it is inevitable that trials and hardship will be accompanied by negative feelings such as sadness, loneliness and anger. Yet even when experiencing these emotions we should be taking joy in our trials. James 1:2-3 "My Brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience." We are told in James that through our trials our faith is tested, which produces patience - a fruit of the spirit. Therefore, James is saying that by enduring trials we strengthen one of our Godly characteristics. In another sense, through our trials we are brought closer to God. As beings we are made up of body and soul (and mind, but let's leave that ...
