Why do we focus on darkness?

Carl R Trueman states … "The gospel is light; it is truly beautiful. To wake in the morning and to know that whatever darkness lurks within our hearts, the light of Christ is sufficient to dispel it all is surely glorious. Why would anyone even want to dwell in any detail on the deeds of darkness when one could spend time reflecting on the magnificence of God manifest in the flesh? I have often in the past stood with those who laughed at what we regarded as the ignorant, unsophisticated taboos of the older generation. But now I worry about the ease with which the rising generation talks explicitly of ‘the fruitless deeds of darkness’ in the name of cultural engagement, fear of being thought passé or simply a desire to slough off the legalisms of their fathers in the faith. You can, after all, get to heaven without ever having seen an R-Rated art house movie or having enjoyed a spectacular love life …"  This statement is true. The Lord Jesus is the light of the world...

Christian hipster or a Godly square?

Do you want to be ‘hip’ or Godly? Christian’s today, specifically the younger generations, can be classed into two categories: ‘hip’ or ‘godly’. These ‘hip’ Christians are cool cats. They are so cool that if you put them in the street next to the rest of society you couldn’t tell the difference. They follow fashions, get tattoos and speak the language. First and foremost, this is blasphemy. Jesus was not a hip fashionable party animal. He was a Godly man who fulfilled the Old Testament laws and kept every single one of them – He lived a perfect life. To even claim that Jesus was interested in things such as fashion and parties is blasphemy. Christ had much more importan...

Why are Christians geeks?

Why are Christians geeks? It's a viable question. When you go to a youth event today or you go to a 'Christian' rock concert or turn on the 'Christian' television channels, you find people who are trying to be cool. They are trying to keep up with the latest trends, they have the latest hair styles and they use the latest slang words, but despite all this, they are complete geeks. Although some of them dress like they've come straight outa' Compton, you know that if they actually went to Compton they wouldn't quite fit in! From a Non-Christian's point of view, it's pathetic. From a Christian's point of view, it's annoying because they are promoting Christianity as something that it is not. To all those geeks out there who say we need to be culturally relevant to reach our youth today I commend you for your heart being in the right place. But two things come to mind: 1) You ain't foolin' nobody, geek. 2) Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Chr...
