Proverbs 27:17 - The right kind of fellowship

Image
Proverbs 27:17 "As  iron sharpens iron, s o a man sharpens the countenance of his friend." As Iron sharpens Iron When cutting a loaf of bread, people say "let the knife do all the work". That is good advise... if the knife is sharp. If the knife is blunt you will have a tough time cutting through the loaf, and will probably end up with a shabby looking slice of toast at the end of it.  It is the same with our faith in Christ. When we put our trust in Jesus Christ, John 14 promises us that a helper, the Holy Spirit, will fill us. In doing so we will be able to have a relationship with God and our minds will be renewed. We will be filled with the power of God. Matthew 19:26 states "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible". When we put our trust in Christ we are adopted into the family of God and unplugged from this world to which we are all at one time in our lives (for some that means the whole of their life) slaves too...

Lessons from Hollywood

The death of Robin Williams last week came as a shock to many and a stark reminder of the reality of death that we all must experience.  It is yet another tragedy amongst the princes and princesses of Hollywood.  Why is it that the lives of so many stars, who seem to have it all, end up in tragedy?  Could it be that because they have had all that the world has to offer right in front of them, they quickly realise that none of it can actually bring fulfilment and happiness? The majority of us spend our lives chasing after things that the world offers in a pursuit to find fulfilment and happiness at a nice steady pace. It is harder for us to see the futility of what the world offers as easily as the stars of Hollywood, who have had everything flung upon them all at once and quickly realise that the world cannot bring them happiness.  The majority of us live regular lives with regular jobs with a nice holiday or two each year. In comparison, it seems like the rich...

Romans 13:11-14 - The Day you Die

CHRISTIANS… This could be the day that you die. We do not know when we will die. Your time could be up right now. As Christians we have a hope and certainty in something much bigger than this world. As a Christian death is nothing to fear, it is the time when we will meet the Lord in person. This is not a turn or burn altar call, because if you have accepted Christ then there is no danger of living in an eternity away from God. However, if today were to be your last day on earth, would you be happy to the contribution you have made on this day? Those who have no care for life and only care for their own desires often live by the phrase ‘live every day as if it is your last’. That phrase is correct. You should live every day as your last, because it may be just that. When you die what do you want to have been doing on your last day on earth? What would you want your last act on earth to be? Would you be happy if your last act on this earth was drinking in a pub? Would yo...
