Hebrews 11:1 What is faith?

Image
Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen." Today, to have faith is considered by many as foolish. It is science that most people now chose to believe in. Undoubtedly science has furthered mankind and benefited us greatly, but when it comes to the question of life and death, science is still (and always will be) unable to produce an answer for us. However, most people don't stop to think about what the Christian faith actually is. Is it something for the foolish and the weak, or is it a faith that is calculated and well placed? There is no doubt that you can have a foolish faith. Many people put their faith in things that have no basis. What about the Christian faith? Hebrews 11:1 provides a definition of what biblical faith is. To understand what it is saying it is best to deconstruct the verse into two parts: "faith is the substance of things hoped for;" and "the evidence of things not seen...

Haggai 1:1-11 Satisfaction comes through Christ alone

Haggai 1:11 “In the second year of King Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying, 2  “Thus speaks the Lord of hosts, saying: ‘This people says, “The time has not come, the time that the Lord’s house should be built.”’” 3  Then the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 4  “ Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?” 5  Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways! 6  “You have sown much, and bring in little;
You eat, but do not have enough;
You drink, but you are not filled with drink;
You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm;
 And he who earns wages,
Earns wages to put into a bag with holes.” 7  Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways! 8  Go up to the...

The Word of God is the Word of God

Everything after Genesis 3 up until now and until the Lord Jesus’ returns as He promised* is known as ‘redemptive history’. God has a perfect plan for salvation. From the physical claiming of a nation and land; to the incarnation of Christ Jesus that has made salvation available to all. Everything that was needed to be done to seal our redemption has been done. In John 19:30 the Lord Jesus said “It is finished!” God’s plan for salvation is complete and the Mystery of His plan has been revealed to us in the Bible. The mystery of the gospel was revealed to us in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. Luke 24:27 “And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.”   & ( Ephesians 3 ). For now in this age, God’s revelation to us is complete. It is contained in the Bible.   Nobody today can claim to speak the Words of God. Only canonized Scripture contains such. The ability to speak the Word of God...

Genesis 19: God's Ways are not our ways: Lot and Sodom

We think like humans therefore it is very hard to obey the Lord’s instructions or understand the way’s of the Lord without putting our own spin on things. We often try to implement our own ideas to glorify God and sometimes even try to help Him to achieve what He wants, but He does not want us to do this. This is a recipe for disaster. Look at the problems caused by Abraham and Sarai who tried to fulfil God’s plan of having a son by their own means. Israel has had constant strife ever since. He wants us to have complete faith in Him, even when things may seem strange or even hindering to us. Take Lot as a perfect example. In Genesis 19 God was merciful to Lot and warned him of the coming judgment over the ‘cities of the plain’, which included Sodom where Lot resided. God planned to destroy every city within that plain, including a small city called ‘Zoar’ ( Genesis 19:22 ). God told Lot to flee to the mountains where he would be safe from God’s coming judgment, however Lot, ...

Hebrews 11:6

Hebrews 11:6 “ But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” The only way we can please God is through faith. Faith makes us strong in the Lord. Faith makes us holy. As humans we will always fall short, both of God’s standards and our own expectations. If you are a Christian… don’t worry! Enjoy your journey. Yes, there will be hard times, but take comfort from the fact that God will always be at your side. Isaiah 43:2 : “ When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.” It doesn’t matter what you do. You cannot please God by good works. You cannot disappoint God by bad works. God knows you fall short of his standards. That’s why He sent His Son and gave us grace. Naturally, as Christians our desires should e...
