The Ark of the Covenant - a Picture of Christ (Part 2)

Image
In Part 1 we looked at the materials that made up the Ark and what they represent. (You can read Part 1   here ). In Part 2 we shall look at what the Ark represents, which in my opinion is exciting, encouraging and shows the coherency of the Word of God and its inspiration by the Holy Spirit. What the Ark Represents: Exodus 25:17 " You shall make a mercy seat of pure gold; two and a half cubits  shall be  its length and a cubit and a half its width.   Exodus 25:21-22  " You shall put the mercy seat on top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the Testimony that I will give you.  22  And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which  are  on the ark of the Testimony, about everything which I will give you in commandment to the children of Israel." The mercy seat is vital to the ark, because without it the ark would not operate as it did and it would not be a p...

The Love of God

The unconditional Love of God is uncomprehendable to the human mind. The Bible speaks of God's love for us. Below are a just a few examples: John 3:16    For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Romans 5:8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. Job 34:19 who shows no partiality to princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor,  for they are all the work of his hands? The whole essence of the Gospel is that God loves us. It is a wonderful fact, however do we ever stop and think just how much it would take to love as God loves? 1 John 4:9-11 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his o...

The way to study the Bible:

People get the wrong idea about the Bible. They use it to see what they can take from it for themselves. How typical of man. They use it for guidance in hard times; they use it for knowledge; they use it for comfort; they use it for instructions of how to live.  I wonder how many people out there read the Bible to worship God?  The Bible can help in all of these areas. However to read the Bible just for these self-benefiting purposes is missing out on what the Bible is really all about - Jesus. We all have our favourite Bible character, whether it is the tenacity and outspokenness of Peter, the strength and might of Samson, the courage and bravery of David, the loyalty of Joseph, the beauty of Esther or the wisdom of King Solomon. However the one that we should always search for when reading the Scriptures is Jesus Christ. For in every character in the Bible, Jesus can be found. Indeed every story or historical event in the Bible, Jesus can be found. The Bible is a big book...

The Ark of the Covenant - A Picture of Christ (Part 1)

Image
Exodus 25:10-22 Every physical thing in the OT is a picture of a much greater Spiritual thing to come. Whilst the NT tells us how to live, the OT tells us why to live. The OT is the foundation to the NT and should not be neglected. Joshua 1:8 tells us to meditate in the word day and night. We should be pouring over the OT and seeing what it reveals to us. The greatest revelations from reading God's Word will come from the OT. Those revelations will then be clarified and understood through reading the NT. The greatest physical picture of grace and Christ is the Ark of the Covenant. Exodus tells us of the beginning of the Israelites. It follows the exodus from Egypt, the giving of the covenant and the instructions of God to build the tabernacle - a House for God to be. The Ark of the Covenant was a place where the Lord God abided. It was placed in the centre room of the Tabernacle, known as the 'Holy of Holy's'. Exodus 25:2 tells us that it is from the sea...
