Be A Reader and A Doer

Ezra 7:10 For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel.

Read the Bible. It is God’s Word. It is a history book and a map book of where we are going. It reveals to us the character and will of God. Until we die and are in the presence of God, it is the best thing we have.

Joshua 1:8This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

However, we should not just read the Bible, but do it. The Bible is a guide of how to live. The New Testament instructs us directly, whilst the Old Testament teaches us through the mistakes of others.

If you come to know these instructions you will become very wise. You will be able to advise others on decisions and help to guide them and correct them in light of what you know. However, knowing these instructions and using them are one thing, but applying them to your own life is very difficult. It is much easier to see other peoples mistakes than you own.

Ezra was a man to be respected. He not only knew the Law of the Lord, but also applied it to his own life, with great effect.

Ezra 7:10 For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel.

Let us strive to be doers of the word like Ezra, not just readers. Let us live as BAC’s should live so that people will take note of how we live and ask us for the reason for the hope that they see in us. And we should always have a defence prepared to answer their questions. (1 Peter 3:13 – 15)

Our greatest evangelistic tool is our own lives. Whoever you are, God will not use you effectively if you are not living as a Christian should - Christ-like.

Do not settle for reading the word. Do it.

-BACChristian
