Romans 13:11-14 - The Day you Die

CHRISTIANS… This could be the day that you die. We do not know when we will die. Your time could be up right now. As Christians we have a hope and certainty in something much bigger than this world. As a Christian death is nothing to fear, it is the time when we will meet the Lord in person. This is not a turn or burn altar call, because if you have accepted Christ then there is no danger of living in an eternity away from God. However, if today were to be your last day on earth, would you be happy to the contribution you have made on this day? Those who have no care for life and only care for their own desires often live by the phrase ‘live every day as if it is your last’. That phrase is correct. You should live every day as your last, because it may be just that. When you die what do you want to have been doing on your last day on earth? What would you want your last act on earth to be? Would you be happy if your last act on this earth was drinking in a pub? Would yo

The Word of God is the Word of God

Everything after Genesis 3 up until now and until the Lord Jesus’ returns as He promised* is known as ‘redemptive history’. God has a perfect plan for salvation. From the physical claiming of a nation and land; to the incarnation of Christ Jesus that has made salvation available to all. Everything that was needed to be done to seal our redemption has been done. In John 19:30 the Lord Jesus said “It is finished!” God’s plan for salvation is complete and the Mystery of His plan has been revealed to us in the Bible. The mystery of the gospel was revealed to us in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. Luke 24:27 “And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.”   & ( Ephesians 3 ). For now in this age, God’s revelation to us is complete. It is contained in the Bible.   Nobody today can claim to speak the Words of God. Only canonized Scripture contains such. The ability to speak the Word of God is not t

Romans 6:1 Don't go back in the water!

Image
Imagine a sign on a beach saying ‘Do not Swim, Shark-infested Waters!’ but you go swimming anyway. Whilst you are enjoying yourself in the water you notice a shark fin nearby. As the fin moves closer you catch a glimpse of the shark with its teeth on show ready to attack you as you paddle helplessly. All of a sudden, a man observing from the shore runs into the water and swims into the path of the shark. The man is violently attacked instead of you and you are saved. Would you go go back in the water the next day? Of course you wouldn’t. You owe this man your life for saving you in those shark-infested waters. It would be an insult to the man and the sacrifice he made to you if you were to go back and swim in the same spot. So why as Christians do we continue to go back in the water? There may be times when we fall in and have to get ourselves back out, but we should never willfully dive into the water as many Christians are doing. John 15 describes Christ as the vine and

Genesis 8:6-9 Raven and the Dove

Genesis 8:6-9 “So it came to pass, at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made. 7 Then he sent out a raven which kept going to and fro until the waters had dried up from the earth. 8 He also sent out from himself a dove, to see if the waters had receded from the face of the ground. 9 But the dove found no resting place for the sole of her foot, and she returned into the ark to him, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth. So he put out his hand and took her, and drew her into the ark to himself.” Romans 15:4 tells us “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” The things recorded in Scriptures are for our learning. Each letter is a revelation from God. To pay attention to the details will reveal the wonders of the scriptures and show the inerrancy of God’s Word. What significance are the raven and the dove in Genesis 8

Deuteronomy 12:3-5 We are making the gospel filthy!

Why is it that the amount of people being saved in your church are few and far between, or out of those who do get 'saved' even fewer actually become strong followers of Christ? There is a significant problem in the church today, a lack of real growth. In the first century church thousands of people were being saved every day.  Acts 2:47 "... and the Lord added to the church daily...".  In the West today this is unheard of. Some people say that is because the first century church were special and the radical explosion in the number of newly born again Christians was an act of God that was necessary to ensure that the church could survive those early days. How convenient that this opinion allows people to continue to live without accepting that they have a problem.  Is this opinion not based on the fact that the results we see today are not in line with what the Bible says happened back then, so instead of admitting that we have a problem we prefer to put the reason

Romans 8:3

Romans 8:3 "For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh." It is easy to read the Bible and understand the jist of it but fail to understand the actual wording. From reading Romans 8:3 we know that the Lord Jesus came to do something which the law could never do; and that we have salvation in the Lord Jesus which we did not have through the Old Testament law. But we may be able to grasp that still without understand the actual wording of Romans 8:3. By understanding the syntax we are able to receive a greater revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ and God's Word. The verse can be broken down into two parts: "For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh...": Q: What does this phrase mean?  A: On the face of it this verse seems to suggest that the law (the law being the ten commandments given to us

1 Corinthians 2:1-5 The fear of Evangelising

As Christians we should have a desire to save those who are lost. We should have a natural desire in our hearts to save those who are perishing. If you do not then there is something wrong with you.  Ecclesiastes 12:14 tells us “For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing; whether good or evil.” When we die we must all stand before the Holy God to be judged according to our hearts. Romans 3:23 tells us that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Psalm 14:3 / Romans 3:12 tells us “…there is none that are good, no not one.”   2 Corinthians 5:21 tells us “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteous of God in Him.” By putting our faith in Jesus we are justly pardoned in law from the wrath of God and are able to enter heaven. As we stand before God to be judged, Jesus is our representative. He is better than any lawyer that money can buy, for not only does He represent for us but He has tak

Do animals go to heaven?

More of a curiosity than anything, nevertheless a common question, one that everybody seems to have an opinion on. Usually that opinion is based on whether that person likes or dislikes animals. Do animals go to heaven? I don’t know. But delving into the question can give us a good insight into the gospel of Christ and be quite fun in general. Some say there are no animals in heaven, whilst others say that animals like their family pet do go to heaven – which is a nice thought. Both of these views are problematic. There are Bible verses that can help shed some light on the question. To those who don’t think there are animals in heaven, this is incorrect. The Bible states that there will be animals in heaven. Isaiah 11:6-7 which relates to the millennial reign states   “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear sh
