Does God speak directly to us today?

Image
This is not a post on whether we as Christians can hear God's voice and guidance in our personal lives. Of course we can and as witnesses of God and children adopted into His family we can come to Him with confidence that He hears and answers us. This post is regarding whether God speaks to us His word today directly, as He did in Bible times. Every now and then you come across certain people who claim to be prophets of God. You hear people begin sentences with words such as "Thus says the Lord...". If you hear people say this, do not listen. Everything in the motions of redemptive history has been completed. From the physical claiming of a nation and land to the incarnation of Christ Jesus who made salvation available to us all. For now, in this age God's revelation to us is complete. Through the Bible we now know the mystery of the gospel, which was revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. The ability to speak God's Word has nothing to do with time periods or

Leviticus 25: Jesus in the year of Jubilee

Image
Leviticus 25 tells us about the year of Jubilee. The year of Jubilee occured every 50 years. There were 49 years and then the 50th year would be the Jubilee year. ( Leviticus 25:8 ). The Jubilee was known as the Sabbath of Sabbaths. It was ultimate thing, just as the inner santuary of the Tabernacle was known as the Holy of Holies, or Jesus is the King of Kings. The sabbath was the seventh day of the week. In Leviticus 25:1-7 God instructs the Israelites not only to keep the sabbath on the seventh day of the week, but also to keep the seventh year as a sabbath year of rest for the land. Leviticus 25:1-7: And the Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying, 2  “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When you come into the land which I give you, then the land shall keep a sabbath to the Lord . 3  Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard, and gather its fruit; 4  but in the seventh year there shall be a sabbath of solemn r

Don't Waste the Opportunity You Have Been Given

Image
Imagine if you and your best friend are in a life and death situation, and your friend chooses to die so that you may live. Your friend volunteers himself to die instead of you. If this were to happen, how would you live your life? You would try your utmost to ensure that you lived your life from that moment on in a way that bears a good testimony to the sacrifice your friend has made for you. You would live your life in a way that would be worthy of the sacrifice made. You would not waste a second of your precious life, because you would know at what great a cost it has been bought with - your friend's life. You would make sure as many people as possible knew what your friend had done for you. You would try your hardest to make sure you live a worthwhile life and help others, just as your friend helped you. You would do this because you would be so grateful to your friend and what he did and also because you would consider it unconscionable to not live in a way that would br

Making a Guilty Plea in God's Heavenly Court?

Image
If you read any of the other blogs on this page then it will be common knowledge to you that one day you must stand before God to be held accountable according to His law - a law, from which we know that we have all broken by reading the 10 Commandments. If you have broken God's law, then justice demands that you must bear the punishment, just in the same way as if you appeared in your local criminal court and had been found guilty of a crime you would have to pay the price. If you were found guilty of a crime in your local criminal court, it would not matter how sorry you are, or how much of a good person you usually are; if you have broken the law then you must bear the punishment. But, what about if you were to make a guilty plea?  In English law, a person has the chance to reduce their sentence by choosing to plead guilty. How much their sentence will be reduced by will depend upon when they makes their guilty plea. In English law it is possible to have your sentence

Genesis 24: Gospel in Genesis

Genesis 24 is a fine picture of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. In this chapter Abraham makes a covenant with his servant, that his servant will not take a daughter from Cannaan to become Isaac's wife, but will find one from Abraham's country. The servant with the help of the angel of the Lord (v.7) travels to Mesopotamia (Modern day Iraq) to find a wife for Isaac. Here we begin to recognise the picture. Abraham, as always, represents God the Father, whilst Isaac the son represents Jesus who is searching for a bride. Marriage is a picture of the relationship with God that we can enjoy through Christ. As believers we become spiritually married to Christ. Hosea 2:19-20 "And I will take you for my wife forever; I will take you for my wife in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love, and in mercy. I will take you for my wife in faithfulness; and you shall know the Lord." John 3:29 "You yourself bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Chr

Does God hear the prayers of sinners?

Image
Does God hear the prayer of a sinner who has not put his trust in Christ, or is He only able to hear the prayers and supplications of those who are saved by Christ? In answering this question it is important that you do not allow your emotions to cloud your judgment, for this question carries many emotional connotations. For from this question, many specific questions can be asked such as, were the prayers of those in Autswitch heard by God or, where the prayers of those unsaved in 9/11 heard? Such questions are endless and divert the focus of the question from the infallible truth of God to our own fallible emotions.   With regards to such questions it is important to understand two things: 1.          In terrible events where people have suffered and died, it seems unconscionable to our way of thinking that some of those people who died in grave circumstances would be apart from God or that God would not have heard their prayers because they had not put their

Christianity is not 'me' and 'I', it is 'you' and 'God Almighty'.

The church has been fooled and hoodwinked. The individuals within the church have become unknowingly decieved. Many Christians have become misguided and warped in their personal application of their well-intentioned faith in God. Many Christians have lost sight of what being a Christian is. The devil has been able to bring this state about with little opposition or struggle because he has cleverly played on our greatest weakness - our pride. The same pride that led the devil to believe he was as great as God, resulting in him being cast down to earth from heaven - like lightening he fell, that same pride that so easily ensnares us, the devil has used to puff us up to the point where we have lost sight of what faith in God really is. A principle of our nature that will never change is that we love to exalt ourselves. It is this trait that is so natural to us that has allowed the devil to so easily infiltrate our reltionship with God. That self-exalting nature that we possess is so s

Which Trinity are you following?

There are only two Trinity's in this world and everybody is either following one or the other 1. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit or; 2. Me, Myself and I. Which one do you follow?
