Trust Him in the calm so that you may trust Him in the storm

Trusting God over trivial matters were the consequences are relatively small is easy. Trusting God in times of life and death is a lot harder.

The world is a terrible place, yet compared to what it will succumb to in the future we should feel blessed to live in such a time. Of course I cannot speak for all, such as the underground church in China or the persecuted Christians in the Muslim countries or Africa, however generally, Christians in today's world experience freedom, albeit somewhat limited and rapidly diminishing.

We must therefore not squander the time we have been given. We must learn to trust God with everything now, when it is easy to do so (or at least easier). If we do not trust God now, we will not trust Him later.

Human nature is self preservation, therefore it is against this nature to put our souls ahead of our natural bodily desires. It would be foolish in the worlds eyes to put God before food. It is because it is so foreign to our natural mind that we must practice trusting God with everything now when the consequences of not trusting Him may be only a setback in our walk with the Lord, rather than a life or death matter.

John 4:32 "I have food to eat of which you do not know."
John 4:34 "My food is to do the will of Him who sent me, and to finish His work."

The Bible is a book of grave news for non-Christians and a book of comforting reassurance for those who love Jesus.

We are explicitly told that God will protect us.

Matthew 6:25-34 25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

Our freedoms as Christians are diminishing. Soon, so called 'equality' and 'human rights' will reveal what it really is. Soon, 'equality' will be so important that nobody will be allowed to criticise others, or even hold opinions that are in opposition to minority groups, all except the Christians that is. Christians will be forced to change their beliefs and accommodate everything under the sun. The homosexuals, the atheists, the pro-abortionists, the Muslims (to name a few) will all profit greatly from equality, to the detriment of the Christians. Those Christians who continue to live according to the Bible will feel the stiff penalty of the law and be ridiculed, persecuted and looked down upon by society for their beliefs. This time is not far away. Already we are beginning to see Christians take the brunt of the law for preaching and living parts of the Bible that some do not like.

Soon, Christians will have no freedoms, which is why it is so important to trust God with everything now, whilst you can. If we trust God now, we will have no problem trusting Him when the stakes are much higher.

The storm has merely hit us. Currently it is centred over different parts of the world such as China and the Arab states. But it will come. There will come a time when we have to put our souls over food. It will be difficult, but the Lord promises to provide for us therefore we will trust in Him. Start trusting Him with everything today, so that you may trust in Him tomorrow.
