Why do we focus on darkness?

Carl R Trueman states … "The gospel is light; it is truly beautiful. To wake in the morning and to know that whatever darkness lurks within our hearts, the light of Christ is sufficient to dispel it all is surely glorious. Why would anyone even want to dwell in any detail on the deeds of darkness when one could spend time reflecting on the magnificence of God manifest in the flesh? I have often in the past stood with those who laughed at what we regarded as the ignorant, unsophisticated taboos of the older generation. But now I worry about the ease with which the rising generation talks explicitly of ‘the fruitless deeds of darkness’ in the name of cultural engagement, fear of being thought passé or simply a desire to slough off the legalisms of their fathers in the faith. You can, after all, get to heaven without ever having seen an R-Rated art house movie or having enjoyed a spectacular love life …"  This statement is true. The Lord Jesus is the light of the world

Should we read the Old Testament, New Testament or both?

There seems to be a significant misunderstanding concerning this issue. Those who don’t understand the Bible usually share the view that the NT has replaced the OT and everything within it no longer has effect, such as regarding the old laws and practices. Before exploring this issue: The Bible must be taken in its totality as the all encompassing Word of God. If you hold certain parts higher than others, then the reliability of the whole of it becomes questionable. First, it suggests that parts of the Word are not as important as others. If this is so, then the fact that these ‘unimportant’ sections were included in the Bible is evidence that the book is not the all-knowing, revelational and God-inspired text that it claims to be. Furthermore, who is to say what sections are important and what are not. Second, 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us “ 16  All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in ri

Out with the old in with the new (Hebrews 13)

With the Lord’s death the old rule under which the Israelites came to God was also put to death. No longer do we come to God through physical sacrifices and earthly priests. Now we come to God through Christ Jesus. Hebrews 9:13-14 “ For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14  how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” The Lord was put to death outside of the camp ( Hebrews 13: 12  “ And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood.” ). The camp in Israel was where all these procedures and practices took place. (The only thing that wasn’t permitted within the camp was the burnt offering. This took place outside the camp, a picture of Christ’s death.) We too should leave the camp and follow the Lord down to Cal
